| The
work of the Fellowship Committee at St. Andrew's is built on many
traditions established over the years through the Service League and
the Membership Committee. Other traditions are more impromptu, like
the simple act of a few parishioners agreeing that a potluck supper
during the Lenten Series is a good idea.
Many, many volunteers
work throughout the year to plan and prepare for Fellowship events
at and for St. Andrew's. This work includes three important areas:
1. Ongoing ministries
– Such as regular Sunday Coffee Hours, In-Reach Teas, and Funeral
Receptions
2. Monthly events &
activities – Including luncheons, Pancake supper, and the Parish
Picnic
3. Annual Fund Raisers
– These two events: Bargain Haul and Silent Auction Gala, are major
efforts that are overseen by co-chairs, and supported by other Vestry
committees (such as Outreach and Finance) along with a number of
volunteers. Proceeds are split evenly between Outreach initiatives
and parish support needs, such as supplies for Sunday School classrooms,
kitchen supplies, and long-term building maintenance and repair
needs.
As with so much
of the work that goes on at St. Andrew's, the Fellowship Committee
is deeply dependent on a large base of volunteers who help plan,
coordinate and execute the many initiatives. There are many ways
people can volunteer their time and talents – from co-chairing one
of our annual fund-raisers, to hosting a Sunday Coffee Hour. Given
the nature of the work, the Fellowship Committee does not hold frequent
meetings. Instead, each event is coordinated by one or two leaders
who are responsible for planning through execution – including volunteer
recruitment and delegation of specific activities. The Vestryperson
for Fellowship helps to coordinate efforts with other vestry committees,
supports events and activities as needed, helps to identify new
volunteers, and is responsible for making sure events are adequately
publicized in The Call, on the St. Andrew's web site, Sunday leaflets,
etc.
