Welcome to St. Andrew's!

We know that venturing out to a new church for the first time can be a challenge. With this "visitor's kit" we have tried to identify and answer most of the questions that first time visitors might have. If this doesn't answer all your questions, please call our church office at 781-235-7310. We are eager to welcome you and make your first visit with us a rewarding and comfortable one!

Where is St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church?

For worship, please enter our main entrance located on Washington Street and for church business, please enter from the Denton Road entrance and go up the steps. (Please note that Denton Road is a U-shaped road and we are on the western end.) Please click here for directions and map.

How long do services last?
Services vary in length from just over an hour to an hour and 20 minutes, depending on whether communion is served and whether there are special events during the service such as baptisms or special music.

What time should I plan to arrive?
If you are joining us for church school, plan to arrive at 9:45 a.m. If you are coming to attend for worship only, plan to arrive about 10 minutes before the service starts in order to have time to find a seat and get settled.

Where should I park?
St. Andrew’s parking lot is just west of the Church on the left side of Washington Street between Denton Road and Cottage Street (traveling west on Washington). Parking is also available on Denton Road and Washington Street. Please observe the posted parking restrictions. The public lot located on the corner of Weston Road and Washington Street is also available on Sunday mornings.

How do I get around inside the church?
Our church is comprised of three floors and includes the Wellesley Montessori School. The basement level includes the Parish Hall, the Toddler Room, church school classrooms for grades K-2 and various other meeting spaces. The first floor is at street level with Washington Street and includes the main sanctuary, Transept Chapel, Children’s Chapel, offices and the Harvey Room (a gathering space). The second floor is reached by the steps near the Harvey Room and includes church school classrooms for grades 3 to 7.

What about Sunday school for my children?
We are a family-friendly church and we welcome families with children of all ages. There are over 350 children and youth registered in our Church School program. The Christian Education program begins at 9:45 a.m. and the children join the adults at the time of the Peace. Since the program differs depending on the type of service (e.g., Holy Eucharist, All-Parish Eucharist, Morning Prayer) we are celebrating on a particular Sunday, please call the church office in advance to determine where to bring your children. You can also ask one of our volunteer greeters or ushers in the church narthex to help you locate the right program for your children. All of these programs are offered from mid-September to mid-June.

Age group Type of program Location
Infants and toddlers
(0 - 2 years old)
Childcare is provided at no charge. Some parents keep their babies with them in the service. Childcare is located in the basement of the building underneath the narthex.
Preschoolers
(Age 3 - 4)
Children in this age group attend classes each Sunday from 9:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Worship consists of a simple prayer service with lots of singing and storytelling. The Children’s Chapel is located across the hall from the Transept Chapel.
Elementary/Youth
(K - 7th)
Elementary school children attend grade level classes starting at 9:45 a.m. and join in worship at the time of the Peace on Holy Eucharist Sundays. On All Parish Eucharist Sundays (once a month), these children are in church with their families for the entire worship service. Occasionally, we celebrate Morning Prayer Sundays where the young children participate in a special liturgy in the Children’s Chapel. This is an informal service that teaches children how to set-up for worship and to participate in the readings and Prayers of the People. Classrooms for grades K-2 are located in the basement level. Classrooms for grades 3-7 are located on the second floor. Ask a volunteer (or another family) for directions to classrooms.

What should I wear to church?
There is a big range of dress at St. Andrew’s - suits to khakis and skirts! Generally, most people attend wearing "business" or “business casual” attire. We care about who you are on the inside, not what you are wearing. Feel free to wear whatever you feel most comfortable in for church.

Is there a Coffee Hour after church?
We offer coffee hour almost every Sunday after the 10:00 a.m. service. The coffee hour takes place in our "Parish Hall" downstairs except in the summer where we gather in the front garden. Please don’t be shy and join us! Look for volunteers wearing a plaid ribbon and name tags who are there to welcome newcomers.

How can I get more information or get added to the mailing list?
Please fill out the “Welcome” card located in the narthex or speak to a volunteer exit greeter after the 10:00 a.m. service. The Exit greeters would be happy to speak to you about any questions you may have and can take down your contact information. St. Andrew’s publishes a monthly newsletter, The CALL, which will be mailed to you.
